GARBAGE PICK-UP SERVICE POSTPONED UNTIL THURSDAY
Newberry, MI – Garbage pick-up services for all Village of Newberry customers will be postponed this week until Thursday, January 31, 2019. Garbage pick-up will begin on Thursday at approximately 8:30 a.m. and will continue until completed, as long as, weather is permitting. Customers may notice the time garbage is picked up on Thursday may be different than typical.
“Staff safety is our top priority. Anyone with prolonged exposure to freezing or cold temperatures may be at risk of serious health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia,” said Jennifer James-Mesloh, Village Manager, “Consequently, garbage pick-up services will be delayed within the Village of Newberry by one day so our staff are not exposed to severe weather conditions.”
The Village of Newberry serves about 670 residential and 75 commercial garbage customers each week and uses a sticker system for fee-for-service plus the monthly charge of $4.50. Garbage stickers may be purchased in the Village office or at local financial institutions in Newberry. The cost per sticker is $1.50 for a 30-gallon sized bag. Large items such as furniture or appliances are also available for pick-up and the cost per sticker is $15. Stickers for large items may only be purchased in the Village office. Notification for these large items must be made in advance to ensure available space in the garbage trucks.
All Village residents are eligible for garbage pick-up services. We appreciate your patience and understanding for the delay in garbage services this week due to cold weather conditions.
